Highlights Amsterdam Fashion Week #mbfwa

It’s a wrap! For ten days Amsterdam was the fashion capital of Europe with its full downtown- and catwalk program. Last Thursday it was Mattijs van Bergen who kicked of fashion week with a collection inspired on Vincent van Gogh in close collaboration with Van Gogh Museum.

But it was Aziz Bekkaoui who really made an impressive opening (and comeback) with his collection ‘Images Rule’, presenting the influence that history and politics have on clothing. Aziz showed some beautiful lace dresses and sweaters, combined with leather trousers. The collection had a strong military influence with bomber jackets, combat boots and Run DMC with ‘Fight the Power’ as catwalksong. I loved it when he joined his models on stage, accompanied by his proud colleagues.

Other highlights were Duran Lantik and Ratna Ho. Duran presented his first catwalkcollection inspired on his crazy fantasies: a folkdance with Marie-Antoinette, Moslima’s, macho-architecture, India and techno.

Ratna showed her ‘Ballroom Backpackers’ collection on Sunday. I met her during Lichting in 2009 were she won the award for best talent. It was very refreshing to see more curvy and masculine models. Finally! She (and her partner Pascal) often engages in incorrect subjects to put on a new esthetic perspective.
