Satu Maaranen is a Helsinki based fashion designer and graduated in 2012 from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Her design is known for nature, art and references to old couture, influenced by her childhood holidays spent at her family’s summer cottage.
The new SS 2015 collection ‘Geometry of futufolk’ is about functional folk graft, 60s space-age and the ornamental Baroque. For the collection Maaranen made research about finish folk craft traditions, the scrolls of Hermitage and the couturiers André Courrèges and Pierre Cardin who were known for avant-garde style and Space Age designs. Her work is a combination of 60s couture and ready-to-wear with expressionistic handmade prints like coated silk and digital prints.
